It’s been a long time coming but we think it’s safe to say that the Perth summer is finally over, and we can finally pull out our winter woollies and embrace the cooler months. As the air turns crisp and the days grow shorter, there’s no better time to bunker down and create a cosy haven at home – we will certainly be embracing the change when styling our listings for sale.
And whether you’re a design enthusiast (guilty as charged!) or simply looking for ways to make your home feel more comfortable, these tips will help transform your home into a haven of warmth and style this winter.
Layered textiles
Just as you layer your clothing for warmth and style in the cooler months, layering interior textiles is key to creating a cosy feel at home. Think plush rugs, soft throws and tactile cushions in rich, autumnal hues to add depth and warmth to your space. It’s also a great time to bring out the wools, velvets and faux furs to further that luxe, sumptuous feel.

Hygge
The Danish concept of hygge (pronounced ‘hoo-gah’) has been trending for years now and it is never more apt concept than in the cooler months. Hygge centres around creating a cosy, inviting atmosphere in your home for you and your friends and family to enjoy. Think an open fire, candles, soft ambient lighting, plush floor pillows and sheepskin throws.

Rich, moody colours
It’s not unusual to see a shift in your wardrobe palette with the seasons and the same can be said for interior colour schemes. The cooler months are the perfect opportunity to embrace rich moody hues like deep greens, reds, burgundy and earthy browns. Pair these bold colours with softer neutrals (warm whites and creamy beiges are currently on trend) to balance the palette and create a soothing environment.

Ambient lighting
Lighting plays a very important role in setting the mood and ambiance of a home – especially during the darker months of autumn and winter. Layer different sources of lighting for an immersive experience – overhead pendant lights, table lamps, floor lamps and sconces all combine to create a cosy vibe. Dimmer switches are another great way to have full control of the lighting in your environment.
