One such event that is close to our hearts is the Revelation Perth International Film Festival which we have sponsored for the past three years. The festival commenced its formal life in 1997 and has since established itself as Australia’s leading independent film event.

“We are a ten-day event that brings 20,000 plus people to Leederville over that time. We attract people into the community, to buy coffees and have dinner and given we have such limited funding, it’s crucial that the community supports us,” says Revelation Perth International Film Festival general manager Suzanne Worner.

Kicking off again this July, the event will include over 200 international films presented at cinemas and bars across Perth and Fremantle. The event will also see moving image art collaborations at galleries across Perth. Designed to highlight innovative ideas in contemporary independent cinema, the festival carves out space for these films within a traditionally conservative cinema and social landscape.

“We want to give people something different to see – we’re trying to bring things that are unexpected and take people out of their comfort zone. They don’t know until they give it a go,” says Suzanne who says this year’s family friendly highlights include Pencilheads Kids Club and the International Animation Explosion. “For adults, I’d check out Kinds of Kindness and Hundreds of Beavers.”

This year’s festival runs from July 3-14.
