Lifestyle trend: The Perth metro holiday home

With WA borders closed to the rest of the world until recently, we began to notice a micro-trend emerging – the Perth metro holidaymaker.

Confined to WA, spending much more time at home, and facing the ever-present threat of lockdown, many buyers began looking for a local holiday home escape that was within an hour of their principal residence. And as such, city-fringe areas such as the Perth Hills saw unprecedented sales results.

Just 35 minutes from the CBD, we recently sold this Baskerville property for a record price

This phenomenon played out during one of our recent sales – a property in semi-rural Baskerville. The property generated a lot of interest, and we had many potential buyers through including a Perth family that have a Noosa holiday home but couldn’t reach it due to the closed border. They didn’t want to travel three hours down south and instead desired a house that they could easily access every weekend.

Facing stiff competition amongst buyers, the Baskerville home ended up selling for $1.2 million which was 233 per cent above the highest price paid previously in the area ($515,000). Only 35 minutes from the CBD, on a 4ha block, the five-bedroom, two-bathroom home overlooks the bush and a rocky outcrop which makes it easy to recognise its appeal.

Afterall, there’s nothing like a tree or sea-change to switch off. Would you purchase a metro holiday home?
